NDIS Miniport Driver Installer (mindinst)

This little utility is used to install NDIS miniport client, service or protocol drivers from the command line using the driver INF-file.

Normally, the installation is done thru the control panel. By using this utility the installation can be done non-interactive, allowing automated installs on many computer at once.


Dump of command line options:

C:\> mindinst.exe -h
BDS IP Firewall (IPFW32) Installer

Usage: Install  [-i|-u] [-c|-s|-p]
  -i:  Install device (default).
  -u:  Uninstall device.
  -c:  Configure network client.
  -s:  Configure network service (default).
  -p:  Configure network protocol.
  -h:  This casual help.


Install network service:
C:\> mindinst.exe netipfw.inf -i -s
Remove previously installed service:
C:\> mindinst.exe netipfw.inf -u

Exit codes

The following exit codes are returned by the application:

  • 0 - Success
  • 1 - Failure
  • 2 - Reboot required.


This application contains code borrowed from the Windows Driver Kit (WDK). This prevents distribution of the source code, only the binary form can be downloaded.

This application has been used to successful install the IPFW32 driver on Windows XP and Windows 7 (32-bit). However, this software is distributed "AS IS", without any kind of warranty.
